International Council of AIDS Service Organizations

Founded in 1991, the International Council of AIDS Service Organizations (ICASO) mobilizes and supports diverse community organisations to build an effective global response to HIV and AIDS. Within an overarching framework of human rights, ICASO works to:
  • build community sector capacity to directly advocate for their own needs
  • mobilize and strengthen community sector partnerships and networks
  • advocate for the effective implementation of universal access to comprehensive HIV and AIDS services.
The ICASO network of networks operates globally, regionally and locally and reaches well over 100 countries internationally. ICASO operates from its International Secretariat in Canada and through Regional Secretariats based in five continents:
  • African Council of AIDS Service Organizations (AfriCASO)
  • AIDS Action Europe (AAE)
  • Asia-Pacific Council of AIDS Service Organisations (APCASO)
  • Latin America and the Caribbean Council of AIDS Service Organisations
  • North American Council of AIDS Service Organisations
Along with ICASO’s involvement as a community co-organiser of the International AIDS Conferences, ICASO is directly involved in and provides support to community sector representatives on international governance bodies such as the Global Fund Board, the UNAIDS Programme Coordinating Board, UNAIDS Reference Groups and initiatives, and other international and multilateral agencies. Amongst other program areas, ICASO and its Regional Secretariats are implementing a multi-country advocacy and networking project on expanding and aligning prevention and treatment.
